President's Message

I am Saif Khan, President of Bengali Performing Arts, welcome you to the world of Bangla speaking people of Glasgow. 

We are a diverse group of people from Bangladesh and different provinces of India. We live and breathe culture. Our urge to express our emotions and thoughts know no bound. 

Coming from the Ganges delta, so rich in its resource, we have been nourished by the legacy of the great political, religious philosophies of the region for thousands of years. Blending into our unique cultural hue, at the same time influencing and shaping almost all  the great civilizations of the past and present. 

Colonial legacy has caused a once unified community to flow in two streams like the metaphor of the rivers Ganga and Padma. Yet here in our adopted homeland we  thrive as a  community galvanised by the need of our cultural expression since 1992. 

We believe Art looks for truth. Art is inclusive. Art embraces difference and celebrates it. And  in that spirit, we continue to enrich our adopted homeland to the colours of the equator despite the often drikh weather of west of Scotland.

গ্লাসগোর বাংলা ভাষাভাষী মানুষের জগতে আপনাকে আন্তরিক স্বাগত জানাচ্ছি।

বাংলাদেশ ও ভারতের নানা প্রদেশ থেকে আমাদের আগমন। আমাদের কাছে শিল্প সাহিত্য সংস্কৃতি চর্চা প্রতিমুহূর্তের নিশ্বাসের মতো। আমরা বিশ্বাস করি, মানুষের যতো কথা, যতো ব্যথা, অনুভূতি আর চিন্তা প্রকাশের তীব্র আকাঙ্ক্ষা কোনো বাধা মানে না।

গঙ্গা-ব্রহ্মপুত্রের পাললিক ভূমি থেকে উঠে আসা আমাদের এইজনগোষ্ঠী হাজারবছরের সামাজিক, রাজনৈতিক, ধর্মীয় ও দার্শনিক ঐতিহ্যেপুষ্ট। এই ঐতিহ্যের বৈচিত্র্যে সমৃদ্ধ আমাদের সংস্কৃতি। যা বিশ্বসভ্যতাকেও করেছে প্রভাবিত। 

ঔপনিবেশিকতা করেছে আমাদের দ্বিভাজিত — ঠিক যেমন গঙ্গা ও পদ্মা দুটি ধারায় প্রবহমান। তবু এই বিভূঁইয়ে-স্কটল্যান্ডে- নতুন বাসভূমিতে, ১৯৯২ সাল থেকে আমরা একতাবদ্ধ একটি সংস্কৃতিমনস্ক সম্প্রদায় হিসেবে গড়ে উঠেছ 

আমরা বিশ্বাস করি—শিল্প সত্যের সন্ধান করে। শিল্প সার্বজনীন। শিল্প বৈচিত্র্য আলিঙ্গন করে এবং তা উদ্‌যাপন করে। সেই চেতনায় আমাদের নতুন আবাসকে সমৃদ্ধ করে চলেছি বৈচিত্রের রূপে, রসে এবং নবসৃজনে।
